Learn the causes of upset behaviour, ‘normal’ and ‘abnormal’ communication and the digestive capabilities of a newborn. Discover practical feeding, winding and sleep techniques, together with helpful calming methods. Gain a new understanding of what forms a baby‘s cues and what they are really saying.
Nurturing families through myths, conundrums, remedies and biological facts, BabyCues unveils - for the first time ever - the likely, positive brain developments that occur when newborns display Six-Wind-Cues.
This simple read, and candid guide, helps cultivate a choice of care based on common sense and dependable ‘life-logical’ solutions. These reacquaint us with the fact - there is a manual for all babies. We call it biology: Mother Nature calls it life.
BabyCues is a revolutionary parenting book. It delivers original, proven findings and practical know-how that helps to achieve natural digestive balance for newborns throughout their first six months - reducing, if not eliminating, the abnormal behaviours of colic, reflux, lactose overload, dairy overload and inconsolable crying. You will also read the results of Philippa's New Zealand Survey on Colic and Reflux and some of the parent's personal accounts of these behaviours.

BabyCues book is a beautifully written practical guide on how to cope with a desperately unsettled baby. As a GP I particularly liked the emphasis on the size of babies stomach and the implications of persistent over feeding and I am delighted to find a medicine free way of managing the over diagnosis of "reflux". Increasingly I am distressed by the excessive prescribing of medications for our precious babies and the complete lack of support or decent advice for the unlucky parents dealing with their screaming children. As a mother of a child diagnosed with "reflux" I just wish I had had Philippa's great advice to hand. Her "back to basic" nurturing techniques would have made my life and my daughter's first few months a lot more enjoyable instead of the hellish time I recollect. I believe that this book will help other parents to avoid the nightmare and instead discover a nurturing way to manage their baby's problems.
What makes the BabyCues book so good compared to others is Philippa covers every single aspect of being a new mum, with a new baby. Every baby is different, and when mine didn't fit into the regime outlined in my book (he refused to breast feed, had raging colic, and screamed solidly for the first six weeks) I felt like a complete failure.
The pictures in this book help massively - it's all very well explaining things, but you need to be able to see what is meant. Philippa has the tone just right too, and that's what makes the book stand out. She get's it. She's not just telling us what to do, you're helping us help our babies, which is all us mums want to do.
I hope this becomes an international best-seller, it deserves to!
My husband felt that our little boy was a science experiment with the number of remedies we had tried on him to no success. However, I still felt the need to try one more possible solution and when the lady at the pharmacy suggested Philippa and her methods from BabyCues, I decided to give them ago. The strategies and techniques helped immensely and our little boy progressively became settled, calm and started to sleep through the night without waking in pain. His digestion functioned better and wind became manageable. My only wish is that I found BabyCues sooner rather than at four months as it would have saved our baby a world of pain, given us more sleep, and decreased the stress, worry and frustration we felt with not being able to help our little man. As a mother and a social worker who deals daily with the results of stressed out parents, I highly recommend Philippa's book, BabyCues – Nurture with Nature.
This book is beautifully written. It is simple, concise, and based on wise teachings that empower parents to sensitively observe their baby’s cues and communication therefore helping them to respond respectfully. BabyCues is designed as an on-going reference book which breaks down the causes of colic, reflux, lactose and dairy overload and complements these descriptions with practical prevention and remedy strategies to comfort and calm your baby.
This manual unpacks some of the common misconceptions about relieving wind (such as giving a baby water to aid wind, or patting a babies back) and instead offers clear scientific explanations, using a new form of care called ‘Bio-logical Care (life-logical care)’ and a step-by-step guide called Natures Wind Sequence. This sequence (with corresponding images) demonstrates how to expel wind from your baby’s stomach after each feed. These methods are designed to support healthy developmental sleep patterns, combat an overloaded digestive system and promote positive feeding techniques. Additionally Babycues provides many other tips and teachings around co-sleeping, sleep deprivation, supporting siblings with a new baby and also experiences from parents who had a newborn suffering from the digestive imbalances of colic and reflux.
I highly recommend this book to anyone about to be parent or those looking for extra guidance and remedies to cure their baby’s upset tummy. Philippa has created a resource which is intuitive, practical and informative with a focus on understanding and responding to newborn’s cues and biology.
The information related completely to us and it was easy to understand because it focused on naturally reading Rocco’s cues. Over the next few weeks Rocco’s well-being continued to improve. Rocco is now 8 months old and through guidance from BabyCues and a lot of trial and error we have worked out ways of managing his reflux. It is not that BabyCues cured Rocco’s reflux but it offered hope at a time when we felt helpless. It gave practical solutions which actually worked and did not involve medicating or compromising our beliefs. I recommend this book to every parent, teacher and medical professional that I talk to. Although I know each child is different I think the information it delivers can give comfort, explanation and advice to those trying desperately to understand why their child is suffering.
I really think what Philippa has achieved is phenomenal. She has identified a universal infant language based on her experience of caring for multiples, and transposed those precious times with very young babies into a book that every new parent can use to learn their baby’s cues quickly and easily. After reading only a few pages I am already able to identify some of the signs of a baby struggling with wind, and I really wish I had this understanding and practical direction back when I needed it with my son. This book means you are not left with that helpless feeling of not knowing how to help your inconsolable baby, or left struggling to settle them. BabyCues is an invaluable addition to parental education! Thank you Philippa.
Thank you so much Philippa, the information in your book BabyCues put my daughter our of her painful digestive state after only 4 nights!!! Evie is 8 months and had been suffering on and off but constantly for the past 2 months, screaming in pain for hours every night and myself getting more and more run down. If I'd read this when I was pregnant with our first child, having a newborn would have been so much easier. Your wind sequence is easy to follow and the baby wind cues are spot on, I remember seeing these in my poor newborns but did't know what they meant back then so didn't respond!! I look forward to your work being mainstream in New Zealand as it will literally change the lives of all mums, bubs and families. I'm going to tell as many people as I can and am very, very grateful for the way you've changed my family's life in just a few days. You are a legend! xxx
I just want to say you're amazing and I'm really enjoying your book. I've just started reading your eBook and I can't thank you enough! Your book is incredible, I can't believe how wrong we get taught even from who we think is the best. My little man is eight weeks today and is the most relaxed little man. We haven't had many issues with him but from reading your book I now know the causes of what is going on. I'm blown away how easy motherhood could be if only we were taught this stuff right from day one. I'm aware of the changes I need to make with him, I only wish I brought your book earlier but so glad I have it now. Thank you again. I will be advising Mums that your book is a must, I know I'll be recommending you. I feel like your knowledge is a must for every new mother/already mothers! I so want your name to spread and for every mother to experience correct advice and the simple things to make their life's so much more relaxed with their babies. I hear of so many stories that could be avoided. If only they knew!'
I have just read this book from cover to cover over the past two days. It has changed Mr 10 week old dramatically already. Thank you! Here's hoping it gets spread far and wide! It's a brilliant book, thank you for writing it!!
